Quite recently, AAMI released the updated ST:91 standards for flexible endoscope reprocessing - a standard that many healthcare facilities adhere to when developing policies and procedure for proper device reprocessing.
Evidently, a joint statement by several GI societies, including SGNA, AGA, and AGE, released in March indicate several concerns with implementing the updated standard, which they claim includes several recommendations that may not be evidence-based or conflicting.
“Changes to ST91 for flexible and semi-rigid endoscopes create obstacles to implement standards and offer impractical, inappropriate, or conflicting guidance.”
