Benjamin D. Galvan, MLS(ASCP), CIC, CPH, is a board certified infection preventionist with a background in medical technology and clinical microbiology. After graduating from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in 2015 with a degree in medical laboratory science, Galvan started his career as a medical technologist in the clinical microbiology lab with Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL. After 3 years in the field, Galvan transitioned into his first infection preventionist role in 2018 with the Advocate Aurora Health System and achieved initial certification in infection control in 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Galvan currently works in Tampa, Florida as an infection preventionist with Tampa General Hospital, a 1041 bed, acute-care, academic medical center, delivering world-class care. Galvan covers many areas of the hospital including the Centers for Neurology & Neurological Medicine and their 32-bed Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit, the Burn Center, the Endoscopy and Bronchoscopy Centers, the central sterile processing department, and several ambulatory care sites. Galvan also serves as the hospital's high-level disinfection committee chair, providing subject matter expertise, guidance, and oversight to the hospital's semi-critical device and flexible endoscope reprocessing program.

In June of 2021, Galvan was awarded the inaugural Emerging Leader in Infection Prevention award for his work in performance improvement and innovation at the National APIC Conference. Galvan is currently serving on the APIC National Communications Committee and is a member of the communications committee for his local chapter, BAPIC. Galvan has also been featured in several media publications including Healthcare Purchasing News, Outpatient Surgery Magazine (AORN), Prevention Magazine, McKesson Medical-Surgical Inc, and Medscape Medical News.

Galvan is presently pursing his master’s degree in Public Health with a concentration in infection control at the University of South Florida.
